The Lifelong Benefits of Exercise For Women and How C-Life Supports Your Journey

Posted on Friday, 3 May 2024

The benefits of exercise for women of all ages are indisputable. From the immediate high from working up a sweat, to the long-term effects on heart health, bone density and building muscle, exercise is the best path toward a healthier you.

Research has shown the effects of exercise on cardiovascular health to be even greater in women that in men. Both aerobic and strength training at moderate intensity of 300 minutes per week showed a 24% reduction in premature death in women, and 18% in men¹.

Bone health and fracture risk is often overlooked in women in the first few decades of life. However, many women are shocked to learn that from as early as the age of 25, our bone building capacity is reduced and by the age of 50, bone breakdown begins to outrun bone formation, leading to the risk of osteoporosis and fracture. The best way to mitigate this is through resistance training and it’s never too early or late to start. The LIFTMOR study from Griffith University showed improvements in bone mineral density and reduction in fracture risk in post-menopausal women with Osteoporosis after 8 months of high intensity resistance and impact training².

In addition to a balanced physique, building muscle makes our daily activities easier to complete and keeps our metabolic health in check. Resistance training is the best way to utilise blood glucose without the reliance on insulin, preventing conditions like Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome and Diabetes.

The message is clear. If you’re a woman, or have an important woman in your life, encouraging exercise of both aerobic and resistance training will help with longevity.
