MEMBER OF THE MONTH: SILVANA

Posted on Wednesday, 30 August 2023

Silvana is a long-time member of C-life and Belmore local, but due to personal challenges and changes in her health, had a break from the gym and her exercise routine. Silvana lives with a neurological disease called Transverse Myelitis, which causes inflammation of the spinal cord and affects sensation leading to weakness in the legs and arms. Facing this adversity only made Silvana more determined to improve her health and she has made leaps and bounds in her metabolic health, mobility, and strength. Forever humble, Silvana credits it to the motivation gained from seeing others in the gym, but her Personal Trainer Mariana and others that see Silvana giving everything a go know that it comes from her inner strength and determination.

How long have you been a member at C-Life?

Since 2005, how time fly’s.

Please tell us about your current training

In the last 6 months, I have gone from being very immobile and unsteady on my feet to now completing 2 sessions of personal training and one class per week. On other days I walk and keep active in the garden and around the house.

What’s your favourite type of exercise and why?

I enjoy swimming and walking, but love resistance training because of the strength I have gained. It makes me feel strong, powerful, and confident in my body.

Outside of the gym, how do you like to spend your time?

Gardening and keeping busy. I love to travel and look forward to planning a trip away soon.

What are your fitness goals and what are you looking to achieve?

Continue to improve my fitness and wellbeing so that I can enjoy my golden years and stay strong and healthy.

What does being a member of C-Life mean to you?

It’s a home away from home and so familiar to me. It encourages me to continue striving for improving my health and seeing so many people on the same journey is inspirational. The changes I have experienced in the last 6 months have given me a new lease on life.
