C-Life Creating Safe Spaces for Women to Move, Grow and Connect
A club’s passionate drive to give back to the community, and an idea to improve women’s health has born positive results for a group of migrant women from Lakemba.
C-Life Health Club, working together with Leonie Williams, Facilitator for Lakemba Schools as Community Centre (SaCC), designed and recently completed a tailored 6-week health and fitness program to help Rohingya migrant women.
The $6,200 cost of the program for two terms was donated by Canterbury League Club as part of the ClubGrants scheme.
For the last 6 weeks, participants attended a 1-hour session at C-Life which covered 20 minutes of open discussion and education on weekly topics including mindfulness, healthy nutrition, bone health, diabetes education and the importance of exercise, followed by 40 minutes of movement-based activity in a private female-only studio to allow for all participants to feel comfortable.
Designed by C-Life Health Club Exercise Specialist Mariana Tolj, the program thoughtfully integrated physical activity and an educational component.
“Programs like this are essential because they offer a safe and welcoming environment where participants can focus on self-care, build confidence, and connect with others who share similar experiences,” said Arthur Siambis, C-Life Health Club General Manager.
Leonie shared: “The initiative empowered local women to step beyond their routines, focus on wellbeing, and connect with their community in a supportive and inspiring environment.”
“19 women graduated from this life-changing program this term, leaving inspired, empowered, and equipped to take charge of their health and wellbeing – demonstrating the lasting impact of accessible, community-focused initiatives.”
