Empowering Seniors to Stay Active
During Seniors Week this month, C-Life Health Club hosted ‘Stronger for Longer’, an educational workshop for older members which focused on the benefits of exercise, the impact of ageing, and how staying active can support long-term health and wellbeing.
“Our Revive seniors’ program is one of C‑Life’s most successful offerings, and Seniors Week felt like the perfect opportunity to celebrate and inspire others to discover the benefits of structured exercise,” said Mariana Tolj, C-Life Health Club’s Exercise Physiologist.
“I wanted the workshop to clearly explain the why, what and how of exercise, so older adults can better understand the impact it can have on their quality of life.”
The workshop explored the physical ageing process and how regular exercise can help slow its natural decline. Attendees learned about different forms of physical activity, including resistance and aerobic training, while also gaining valuable research insights and practical tips to help incorporate these habits into their weekly routines.
The workshop aimed to equip seniors with the knowledge and confidence to start and maintain physical activity, highlighting it as a powerful tool for ageing well.
“Ageing is inevitable, but the way we age, and how it shapes the quality of every year we live, is something we can influence,” said Mariana.
“The choices we make, the routines we build, and the way we navigate change all compound over time to shape our wellbeing.”
As we age, we naturally experience changes such as a decline in muscle mass and quality, reduced bone mineral density, brain health, and balance systems leading to higher risk of falls.
“Understanding these changes is essential. It helps people make informed decisions about their health and recognise how lifestyle choices can influence these age‑related changes,” said Mariana.
While structured exercise can be challenging, it makes everyday activities easier and supports strength, energy, independence, and overall wellbeing at any age.
“To start building a structured exercise routine, I’d say to start with day one, just take that first step and don’t look back,” said Mariana.
“Our Seniors classes run Monday to Friday and offer a friendly, supportive environment with qualified instructors to help you move at your own pace. It’s a great way to build routine, improve fitness safely, and connect with others. I promise you won’t be disappointed!”
