MEMBER OF THE MONTH: LUKE
- Tell us a little about yourself
I’m someone who struggled with my mental health for a good portion of my adult life, and the one consistent thing that has kept me in check is daily exercise. I train for my brain’s health — the by-product just happens to be a healthier body!
Apart from weightlifting, my passions are running, swimming in the ocean, attempting to surf, and using my Pilates skills to stay upright on a paddleboard.
- What’s one fitness goal you’re currently chasing that you’d love to tick off this year?
Over the past 12 months, I’ve competed in the doubles HYROX events in Melbourne, Brisbane and Sydney. My goal was to step up and do an individual event this year, which I did in Sydney this year. My finish time was OK, but more importantly, the experience taught me more about myself than 4 years of Uni ever did!My next big goal is to get back into marathon running, but that’s one for next year. In the meantime, I’m aiming to get my VO₂ max back above 50, it’s currently sitting between 45–48, that’s something I’m working on this year. (Being in my mid-40’s, a 50 VO₂ max seems more like a dream than a goal).
- If you could only do ONE exercise for the rest of your life, what are you choosing and why?
Easy, Running. The hit of endorphins & dopamine after a solid run, is just euphoric.
