MEMBERS OF THE MONTH: JULIE AND JEREMY
Q.1 Tell us a little bit about yourselves…
Julie and I have shared a common interest in fitness and maintaining a healthy lifestyle since the time we first met. Forty years later, we’re still on that journey, one that first began at the Canterbury Leagues Club gym and now continues at C-Life. Funnily enough, differing work commitments and family priorities over the years have meant that we’ve very rarely been able to train together. However, we’ve always supported each other in the pursuit of our individual fitness goals.
Outside of our fitness routines, we enjoy spending time with our two daughters and three grandchildren. We also love dining out, music, theatre, and travelling.
Q. 2 What do your workout routines consist of? What are the similarities and differences?
Our training programs over the years, and even now, couldn’t be more different. Julie trains 5–6 days a week and normally starts at 5:30am. Her workouts are highly structured and consist of a weights program that focuses on different body parts each day. She also has a dedicated cardio day using the rower, bike, step machine, and cross trainer, and whenever possible, she fits in her favourite Body Pump class.
I normally train 5 days a week at around 9:30am and complete six resistance exercises in no order, depending on which machines are available. I change things up every three months or so, based on the results of the regular InBody Bio Scans that we both undertake. I also enjoy my weekly boxing class with Bill, my boxing and MMA training partner of nearly 15 years.
Although our routines are very different, we both acknowledge the importance of maintaining our strength, mobility, and healthy weight and most importantly, building and retaining muscle. So far, both of our programs seem to be delivering the results we’re after.
Q.3 You’ve both trained at this gym from the early 2000’s – what have you seen progress? What changes have been made and how do you feel?
Before C-Life, there was a small gym facility located opposite the squash courts, along with a Spin Studio and aerobics classes that were run by a very young Arthur.
Fast forward 25 years and C-Life has evolved into a modern fitness facility with a growing membership base that represents all age groups and demographics. Some of the major improvements include the relocation downstairs, continual upgrades to equipment, the introduction of programs such as Pilates and Yoga, the addition of the crèche for young parents, Personal Training services, and a wider variety of classes that cater to members with different schedules.
What continues to draw us back to C-Life is the relaxed and friendly atmosphere that Arthur and his team work hard to create. There’s a wonderful social aspect to the gym that extends well beyond the workouts themselves. It’s not unusual to see groups of members enjoying a coffee and chat together after training.
