STAFF SPOTLIGHT: MARISSA

What inspired you to become a Reformer Pilates instructor? How long have you been teaching Pilates?
I have been teaching Pilates for about 5 years . I had an amazing Pilates teacher back in the 90s , she was an amazing Pilates teacher , I don’t believe I’d still be working as a dancer for as long I have if it wasn’t for her. I want to help other people like she helped me.
What do you love most about teaching Reformer Pilates at C-Life?
I love the friendly faces as C -life . Particularly the participants in the reformer classes, they are so down to earth, I feel very at home at C- life.
For someone who’s never tried Reformer Pilates before, how would you describe it?
I would first probably make a joke about it being a torcher device and then tell them the benefits. It will improve your strength , range of movement and your balance. “It fine tunes your body”
What kind of results do members usually see from regular Reformer Pilates?
I see a lot stronger core strength, finer motor skills are acquired, but the thing I notice first and most prevalent is balance.
What’s your favourite Reformer move or sequence, and why?
My favourite sequence on the reformer is an arm exercise using the stick, it doesn’t have a name but it requires shoulder and abdominal work.
When you’re not teaching Pilates, what do you enjoy doing in your free time?
Going for a walk and patting dogs 🙂
