STAFF SPOTLIGHT: MODI
1- Tell us a little about yourself…
Hey everyone! I’m Modi, a proud Lebanese-born belly dancer and instructor who’s been shimmying across Sydney (and the world!) for years. Outside the studio, I’m all about good vibes — I love hanging out with friends, going on outdoor walks, shopping sprees, a bit of sport, and a cheeky card game or two! I’m all about energy, laughter, and living life in rhythm.
2-How did your passion for belly dancing begin, and what inspired you to become an instructor?
I started belly dancing when I was just 6 years old— it’s in my blood! By 19, I was performing professionally with some of the biggest Lebanese dance groups, representing my country around the world. Becoming an instructor was always a dream because I love connecting with people. I’m a warm, approachable person, and there’s nothing better than sharing the joy and culture of this dance with others!
3-What’s your favourite move to teach – and which move usually gets the biggest laughs or challenges everyone the most?
My absolute favourite move to teach is the chest shimmy — it’s fun, full of energy, and always gets everyone laughing! The belly waves and snake legs, though… that’s where the real challenge begins. It looks smooth and effortless, but trust me, your abs will feel it the next day!
4-What is something people are always surprised to learn about belly dancing as a workout?
Most people are shocked when they realise how tough belly dancing actually is! It might look graceful and easy, but it’s a full-body workout — you’re using your core, legs, glutes, and even tiny stabilising muscles you didn’t know existed. It’s strength, coordination, and cardio all in one sparkly package!
5- What do you love most about teaching at our gym and being part of this community.
C-Life has such an amazing, welcoming energy — it’s like a family! I love seeing people walk into class a bit shy and leave with confidence, smiles, and maybe even a new shimmy or two. The community here is so supportive, fun, and full of heart — it’s truly my happy place.
